Son of Sardaar is a remake of Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna directed by S. S. Rajamouli. This Bollywood comedy-romance drama is directed by Ashwni Dhir.
The basic theme of this films is purely Indian. Mehmaan to Bhagwaan hota hai. Which implies that certain families in India treat a guest like a God. Incidently it is from Ashwini Dhir, who directed the 2010 hit film Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge which had a somewhat similar theme about a guest in the house.
(Jassi) Ajay Devgn resides in the UK and gets an official note reminding him about his succession of his family property in Phagwara, Punjab in India. So he comes to India, and from Delhi, while alighting the train to Punjab, he comes across Sukh (Sonakshi Sinha).
This simpleton Sikh from the UK is so impressed with the girl that he loses his balance somewhat, which creates funny situations en route the train journey to Punjab.
Somewhere the Punjabi girl too has grown fondness for this loveabe Sikh boy. But she keeps it to herself. They reach Phagwara, and while Sonakshi greet her brothers and uncle – Billu (Sanjay Dutt), Jassi is busy collecting their belongings, and so they depart, only to come across each other at a Gurudwara.
Here Sukh introduces Jassi to her uncle, and Billu uncle (who is a kind hearted person) insists Jassi come and stay at their palatial house, unknown to the fact that this Jassi is the same person whom Billu is searching for the past decades. Billu has a score to settle with the son of the person who was responsible for his brother’s death.
Which in simple terms means that Jassi’s father was responsible for the killing of Sukh’s father.
This one is a great bollywood masala romance which is fit for the Diwali occasion.
Son of Sardar is entertaining in parts, while it is Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt who star in action scenes, ably supported by Mukul Dev and Vindu Dara Singh.
Salman Khan makes a special appearance in the beginning and then in the PON PON song in the end.
Though, it lacks proper story, and that it is below average in other departments, yet it has all the gloss, one liners (thankfully not the double meaning ones) and the action is designed realistically by computer graphics.
This one is the best example of a typical hindi film which entertains the masses.
